The Donggang Ying Wang Peace Festival is far more than just a folk event; it is a sacred covenant held every three years between the people of Donggang and the divine. Legend tells that the Jade Emperor appoints divine emissaries (known as Great Qian Sui) to serve as Imperial Commissioners “Inspecting on behalf of Heaven.” These emissaries descend to the mortal world to tour the locality, rewarding virtue and punishing vice.
The central mission of the festival is to utilize a magnificent “King Boat” to gather and “load” all local plagues, baleful energies, and misfortunes. Through the concluding “Burning of the King Boat” (the Send-off of the Royal Emissaries) ceremony, these misfortunes are completely banished from the human realm, ensuring the community’s peace and protection for the three years to come. It is a magnificent procession that unites faith, culture, art, and profound spiritual experience into a singular, breathtaking spectacle.
